Government Housing Programs

Low-income housing can be unsafe unless you apply for government programs, living in one of these myself, I can vouch they are extremely safe. No one who isn’t a resident can’t enter the building without someone letting them in, you must use a key to get in and out which makes me feel extremely safe.

  •  Fire Alarm Systems
  • Emergency Cords in Bathrooms n Bedrooms
  • Regular Inspections by HUD
  • Steel Apartment Doors
  • Elevators with Emergency Alert Buttons to 911
  • Safety Knowing Street People Can’t Enter Your Building
  • Emergency Maintenance is Provided 24 Hours
  • Located in Safe Neighborhoods
  • Police and Fire Company Nearby
  • Ambulance Service to Hospitals
  • Daily Bus Available
  • Low Affordable Rent With Utilities Included

Even though some of my fellow residents complain, you can’t find a better and safer place to live than through the HUD housing program. You must go through a waiting period and qualify of course, but if you have no place to go, they will move you up the list as in need of emergency housing.

HUD One-Stop Tool

Public Housing Process Guide

To give you an idea of how this works, we are going to get access to this information from the HUD website. For your convenience, I have listed the process procedure below.

(1) Names of all persons who would be living in the unit, their sex, date of birth, and relationship to the family head;

(2) Your present address and telephone number;

(3) Family characteristics (e.g., veteran) or circumstances (e.g., living in substandard housing) that might qualify the family for tenant selection preferences;

(4) Names and addresses of your current and previous landlords for information about your family’s suitability as a tenant;

(5) An estimate of your family’s anticipated income for the next twelve months and the sources of that income;

(6) The names and addresses of employers, banks, and any other information the HA would need to verify your income and deductions and to verify the family composition.

(7) The PHA also may visit you in your home to interview you and your family members to see how you manage the upkeep of your current home.

(8) After obtaining this information, the HA representative should describe the public housing program and its requirements and answer any questions you might have.

You have just read the process from the HUD website, even though it might sound like a lot of work. I can promise you that it will be well worth applying if you are living on a low income, Why do without your needs when this is available, even I hesitated before finally applying myself.

Why I am sharing this with you is to give you a better idea of who I am as a person, as you get to know my true heart you might realize that you can trust me.

Sponsor a Child

Save The Children

Another worthy organization that is important to me is Save The Children, even though I am not a wealthy person, I do plan one day to sponsor a child. For anyone who is financially able, this is a great opportunity to change a little boy or girl’s life, I do understand many of us just are not able to do this at this time.

  • Learn How Sponsorship Works
  • More Than 80,000 Americans are Sponsoring a Child
  • Choose the Location
  • Gender of the Child
  • Even the Age
  • Option to Correspond with Them if You Desire To

Children are so innocent of what they are experiencing, it is not their fault they were born into poverty. What more could God ask from you to help improve one of his children’s lives, I don’t mean to pressure you and Gizmo receives nothing from you supporting any of the organizations mentioned in this article.

Medical Expense Assistance Organizations

Even though this article primarily is focusing on low-income apartment programs, there are so many other needs that I felt were needed to include to help as many of you struggling as possible. With medical expenses myself in my senior years, I really do understand how this can put you into debt. Many times we just can’t cut back enough to pay them, and this is when these organizations are where you need to go.

  1. When our daughter went away to college, she was looking for very low-priced housing, not because she needed it, but because it was all her prospective roommate could afford. She picked one out (not HUD) and was all moved in, waiting for her roommate to join her, when we saw some signs that told us something was not right. When we went for coffee, my husband Marty, who isn’t one to talk to strangers, asked a random man if he lived around there, and if turned out he “just happened to be” a long-time real estate agent who knew the area very well. Marty asked if it was safe, and he said for the most part, very safe. But when Marty told him we had just signed a rental agreement for an apartment and told him where it was, this man (angel?!) looked him in the eye and said firmly, “GET HER OUT. NOW.” Turns out this small apartment building was where all the drug dealing went on.
    That’s our only experience we’ve had with cheap apartments. I’m so glad to know the government ones are safe, since so many people don’t have a choice. Thanks for sharing this information.
    P.S. We did move her back out, immediately. (It had taken us two days to move her in, it took less than an hour to move her out.)

    • Thank you very much for sharing your experience with low-income apartments, I am extremely happy to hear you got your daughter out of that bad situation before anything happened to her.
